An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a computer and works as the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, which includes peripheral devices such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it transfers requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, web hosting servers also feature an Operating System that functions as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be set up on a physical one, so you can install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

We offer you three different Linux releases for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the most stable and reliable OSs you can get and we provide all 3 instead of just one because we realize that you may want to install some software which has specific requirements for the Operating System it will run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a vast support community behind it and there're various software packages you can install on the web server. Your OS choice will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS if you would like to use one and that is why we offer several Control Panels as well. Should you decide that you want some other OS, our tech support can quickly wipe the current one and set up the one that you need. In addition, we offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
